Title Lab: 7 Claude test viewers decide if they'd click your YouTube video (free Claude Code skill)

You give it your YouTube title and thumbnail. Seven Claude test viewers, each seeing your video in a different place, decide separately whether they'd click. You get who you lose and why, three better titles and the best title and thumbnail pair.

It's a free skill for Claude Code, and you don't need to write any code to use it. You copy a folder, prepare one input and type one line.

Who's on the panel

  1. The Searcher: typed a search and scans the results for the one that answers it
  2. The Home-Feed Browser: wasn't looking for anything and sees the thumbnail first
  3. The Subscriber: already likes the channel and decides if this one is worth the time
  4. The Skeptic: punishes clickbait and checks the video can back the package up
  5. The Newcomer: new to the topic and lost by insider words
  6. The Phone Glancer: sees the thumbnail the size of a stamp on a phone
  7. The Competitor Grid: sees it next to five other videos on the same topic

Each one votes CLICK or SKIP, gives a gut-feel click-through guess for people like them, scores the package out of 10, and gives one reason and one fix. They don't see each other's answers: in Claude Code each one runs as its own Claude, with its own fresh context, all 7 at the same time.

What you get

A report short enough to fit in one screenshot:

  • how many of the seven would click, and a score out of 10
  • who you lose, and why
  • 3 better titles (60 characters or fewer), each a different approach
  • 3 thumbnail text options (4 words or fewer) and the best title and thumbnail pair
  • if you give it 2 or 3 options, which one the viewers pick

The last line of the report says how the panel actually ran, so you always know whether you got 7 separate Claudes or one Claude doing 7 passes.

Before you start

  • Claude Code. It works in the Claude desktop app (the Code tab) or in a terminal.
  • A paid Claude plan or API credit. Claude Code needs a Claude Pro ($20 a month) or Max plan, or pay-as-you-go credit from the Claude Console. Each run starts 7 reviewers, so it uses more of your plan's usage than a single chat message.
  • The skill folder. Download it free below. The skill file costs nothing; running it is what needs Claude Code.
  • About 10 minutes for the first run, then a minute or two per run after that.
The skill is free and MIT-licensed: use it, change it, share it. Running it is not free, because it needs Claude Code, which comes with a paid Claude plan or API credit.

Step 1: Put the folder in place

Unzip the download. Copy the whole title-lab folder (not just the files inside it) into your Claude skills folder:

  • Mac: ~/.claude/skills/ (in Finder press Cmd+Shift+G and paste ~/.claude/skills)
  • Windows: C:\Users\YOUR-NAME\.claude\skills\ (paste %USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills into the File Explorer address bar)

If the skills folder doesn't exist yet, create it.

Check it worked: this file exists on your computer: .claude/skills/title-lab/SKILL.md.

Step 2: Get your title and thumbnail ready

Export your thumbnail as an image (PNG or JPG) and copy your title. Write one line on what the video actually delivers.

Check it worked: you have the thumbnail file, the title and one honest line about the video.

Step 3: Run it

Open Claude Code and start a new session so it picks up the new skill. Then type /title-lab, then your title in quotes, then drag the thumbnail into the window so its path appears, then the line about the video. Press Enter. For example:

/title-lab "I Tried Every Budget Microphone Under $50" "/Users/you/Desktop/thumb.png" video: 6 mics tested, one clear winner

It takes a minute or two. If Claude asks for permission to read your files or to start the test viewers, say yes.

Check it worked: you see the report in the chat, and its last line starts "Panel: 7 separate Claude reviewers, run in parallel" (or "Panel: 1 Claude, 7 separate review passes" if your setup can't start subagents). It's also saved as title-lab-report.md when Claude is allowed to write files.

What it can't do

  • The click-through numbers are gut guesses, not data. Real click-through depends on where YouTube shows your video and to whom. The report says this every time.
  • It won't invent claims for your titles. Tell it what the video actually delivers so new titles stay honest.
  • It can't see your YouTube Studio numbers. Compare its pick against your real click-through after you publish.

Using the Claude.ai chat app instead

You can upload the skill as a zip in the Claude.ai app (Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills). Chat can't start subagents, so there one Claude plays all 7 test viewers one after another. It still works, and the report's last line says so.

FAQ

Is it really free?

The skill is free: download the folder, use it, change it, share it (MIT licence). Running it needs Claude Code, which comes with a paid Claude plan (Pro at $20 a month, or Max) or pay-as-you-go API credit. Each run starts 7 test viewers, so it uses more of your plan than one chat message.

Can I compare two or three thumbnails?

Yes. Give it up to three title and thumbnail pairs labelled A, B and C. The viewers judge each one and the Lab Director says which pair they pick and why.

Are the click-through rates real?

No. They're each viewer's gut guess for people like them, and the report labels them that way. Use them to compare options, then check your real click-through in YouTube Studio after you publish.
