Caption Newsroom: 7 Claude editors work over your caption before it goes live (free Claude Code skill)

You paste the caption you're about to post. Seven Claude editors, each with one job on the desk, read it separately and vote run it or spike it. You get fact-check flags, three first-line options and a rewritten caption ready to paste.

It's a free skill for Claude Code, and you don't need to write any code to use it. You copy a folder, prepare one input and type one line.

Who's on the panel

  1. The Editor-in-Chief: asks what the one story is and whether the caption serves the post's goal
  2. The Fact Checker: flags every number and claim that needs a source or a qualifier
  3. The Headline Desk: works only on the first line, the part people see before "more"
  4. The Search Desk: makes sure people searching the platform can find it
  5. The Scroller: the reader in the feed with half an eye on it
  6. The Copy Chief: cuts filler, fixes errors and keeps your voice consistent
  7. The Community Editor: owns the call to action: comments, saves, shares and follows

Each one votes RUN IT or SPIKE IT (newsroom for "kill it"), scores the caption out of 10, and gives one reason and one fix. They don't see each other's answers: in Claude Code each one runs as its own Claude, with its own fresh context, all 7 at the same time.

What you get

A report short enough to fit in one screenshot:

  • the decision (run or spiked) and a score out of 10
  • fact-check flags: claims that need a source or a qualifier
  • three first-line options, the part people see before "more"
  • the rewritten caption, ready to paste, with its character count

The last line of the report says how the panel actually ran, so you always know whether you got 7 separate Claudes or one Claude doing 7 passes.

Before you start

  • Claude Code. It works in the Claude desktop app (the Code tab) or in a terminal.
  • A paid Claude plan or API credit. Claude Code needs a Claude Pro ($20 a month) or Max plan, or pay-as-you-go credit from the Claude Console. Each run starts 7 reviewers, so it uses more of your plan's usage than a single chat message.
  • The skill folder. Download it free below. The skill file costs nothing; running it is what needs Claude Code.
  • About 10 minutes for the first run, then a minute or two per run after that.
The skill is free and MIT-licensed: use it, change it, share it. Running it is not free, because it needs Claude Code, which comes with a paid Claude plan or API credit.

Step 1: Put the folder in place

Unzip the download. Copy the whole caption-newsroom folder (not just the files inside it) into your Claude skills folder:

  • Mac: ~/.claude/skills/ (in Finder press Cmd+Shift+G and paste ~/.claude/skills)
  • Windows: C:\Users\YOUR-NAME\.claude\skills\ (paste %USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills into the File Explorer address bar)

If the skills folder doesn't exist yet, create it.

Check it worked: this file exists on your computer: .claude/skills/caption-newsroom/SKILL.md.

Step 2: Get your caption ready

Copy the caption exactly as you'd post it, hashtags and all. Add a line on the platform and what the post or video shows.

Check it worked: you have the caption, the platform name and one line about the post.

Step 3: Run it

Open Claude Code and start a new session so it picks up the new skill. Then type /caption-newsroom followed by the caption (or the path to a text file or screenshot), the platform and what the post shows, then press Enter. For example:

/caption-newsroom "/Users/you/Desktop/caption.txt" Instagram reel: my 3 favourite cafes in Lisbon

It takes a minute or two. If Claude asks for permission to read your files or to start the editors, say yes.

Check it worked: you see the report in the chat, and its last line starts "Panel: 7 separate Claude reviewers, run in parallel" (or "Panel: 1 Claude, 7 separate review passes" if your setup can't start subagents). It's also saved as caption-newsroom-report.md when Claude is allowed to write files.

What it can't do

  • The Fact Checker can't browse. It checks your claims against what you gave it and flags anything that needs a source or a qualifier. It never makes up a source.
  • Disclosures stay. Lines like #ad, paid partnership or "made with AI" are kept word for word in the rewrite.
  • It edits the caption, not the post. It can't see the video unless you describe it.

Using the Claude.ai chat app instead

You can upload the skill as a zip in the Claude.ai app (Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills). Chat can't start subagents, so there one Claude plays all 7 editors one after another. It still works, and the report's last line says so.

FAQ

Is it really free?

The skill is free: download the folder, use it, change it, share it (MIT licence). Running it needs Claude Code, which comes with a paid Claude plan (Pro at $20 a month, or Max) or pay-as-you-go API credit. Each run starts 7 editors, so it uses more of your plan than one chat message.

Which platforms does it work for?

Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube descriptions and Facebook. Tell it which one, so the Headline Desk and the Search Desk judge the caption against how that platform shows and searches text.

Will it change my voice?

The Copy Chief's job is to keep your voice consistent, so the rewrite cuts filler and fixes errors rather than turning it into someone else's style. If a line sounds wrong to you, keep yours.
